How does the Brain Work?

Its a electrical system that is similar to the computer. Vision related with the occipital region. Broca's area is in the left half of your brain. This part allows you to talk with other people. A primitive part of the brain is called the limbic system that is involved in the control of emotions such as joy, sadness, fear, anger. Nerves that connect and wire the whole brain together is called nerves or neurons. Single nerve in the brain may send out signal to as 25,000 other nerves that are located throughout the entire brain. The regions where different nerves meet is called as synapse. Communication between the synaptic nerves is important to understand because that’s what stimulate the electrical activity and helps in proper functioning of the brain in overall way. Chemicals such as neurotransmitters helps in transferring neurosignals from one end to another end. Neurotransmitters are basically biogenic amines because they are manufactured from amino acids in the foods we eat, serotonin, nor-epinephrin, and dopamine. Mainly these three chemicals are heavily studied by psychiatric researchers. We don’t know how does the pairing of a nerve or series of nerves get translated into a thought or a feeling?

Let’s discuss about the sexual drive in human plus alcohol consumption and their effect in the brain. We have two brains, one that thinks rational and tries to make us human and make us behave properly i.e cerebral cortex. Beneath this is more primitive brain – limbic system that tries to act like reptilian animal. Immediate control of body in danger is controlled by the reptilian part of the brain- limbic system, without the conscious control. We have the conflict between limbic and the rational brain that one tries to satisfy the primal drives while other tries to make him rational and decent. Hormonal control and release of testosterone inside the body is controlled by the limbic system. More the testosterone in the blood, more hair growth for men. No testosterone is linked with no sex drive. Additionally, act of chewing and swallowing our favorite food triggers a chemical in the brain called Dopamine in the limbic system, it’s a neurotransmitter travelling across the brain cells stimulating pleasure pathway in the brain. Using extra chemicals like alcohol we can fool the brain’s chemicals. Alcohol easily passes when consumed from stomach to the blood stream, just after few seconds of taking alcohol, it floats in the brain, and it stimulates the brain to release Dopamine- it’s the manipulation of survival mechanism. We always tend to sick Dopamine hype in us, a feeling of satisfaction. And we tend to seek the Dopamine hit, a survival drive, through which sexual drive, eating, drug addiction or anything is maintained. It doesn’t have any of the conscious control, it just wants to get released, that’s what triggers in us the desire. Limbic system for desire, danger. When we speak to or get near someone we are attracted to, the limbic system triggers the primal drive, while our frontal cortex tries to make us cool. This conflict between the two parts of the brain is what makes us Anxious. Drinking of more alcohol makes the brain cells to switch off. Since the cerebrum is the largest one and more easily accessible, more consumption of alcohol deposits the alcohol molecules in the cell to cell connection where neurotransmitter are released, blocking their pathway and preventing the messages in the brain to pass to the body. Hence higher rational brain is muted with more alcohol making way for reptilian brain- Limbic system to take control. Thousands of years of evolutions are dissolved in few bottles of alcohols. Testosterone is converted to Aldosterone and released as sweat. Tiny bacteria feeds on those aldosterone and leaves smell, these powerful chemical in other animals trigger mating behavior, it’s like animal pheromone. Smell directly goes to the primitive brain –limbic system.  Dopamine can still be released in the limbic system. Limbic system directs more blood to the skin region, since touch receptors are stimulated through touch of partners making individuals hotter. Consumption of more and more alcohol now can shut the limbic system as well, creating visual illusion and numbing of the body parts. With further more alcohol, now the effect is seen on the lower portion of the brain i.e cerebellum that affects in the muscle coordination.
