Brilliance of Trillions cells

When you look at the scientists and great researchers, you can get amazed at how deeply they study their subject matter. Henry Edward Crampton was the one who spent his 55 years from 1906 to his death in 1956, quietly studying a genus of land snail called Partula in polynesia, measuring every tiniest degree of whorls, arcs and gentle curves for numberless Partula. Similarly Alfred C. Kinsley hiked almost 4000 km just to assemble 300 thousands of wasps. Isn't it amazing??

Your body is country of 10000 trillion citizens(cells), each devoted in some intensively specific way to your overall well being. They let you feel pleasures and form thoughts. When you eat, they let you extract nutrients and distribute energy. They keep your hair growing and unhesitatingly die for you. And not once in all your years have you thanked even one of them. Its sort of fascinating that your skin cells are all dead. With almost 2 kg of dead skin you are holding. Most living cells lasts for a month. Liver cells survive for years though components within them may be renewed every few days. Brain cells lasts as long as you do but individual component of your brain cells are constantly renewed. It may not feel like it but at cellular level we are all pretty young.

Talking about cells, it was first discovered 350 years ago. A one inch square holds almost 1,259,712,000 cells. Robert Hooke was amazed when a person named Leeuwenhoek was sending him drawings and reports on cells with microscope of magnitude 275 times, no one could know his secrets on creating such a magnifying lens. He sent almost everything that could be usefully examined from bread mould, blood cells, teeth, hair, his own saliva and semen. Robert Hooke was pretty famous that time since he discovered first cells (even though it was dead). In 1683 Leeuwenhoek discovered bacteria. It is estimated that almost 82 lakhs of protozoans can get accumulated in single drop of water. You can pretty easily imagine how densely the microbes world might be populated.
The foods we eat and oxygen we breath are combined in cells to form electric power on tiny scale. Your heart must pump 343 liters of an hour, 8000 liters everyday, three million liters in a year enough to fill four Olympic sized swimming pool, just to keep all those cells in your body freshly oxygenated. Typical cell in your body have about one billion ATP molecules in it. Feel the warmth of your skin, that's your ATP at work.

And generally most of the cells die as programmed in the gene, we call this Apoptosis. Occasionally when cell fails to expire in prescribed manner, they begin to divide resulting in the formation of cancer. Cancer is more like confused cells and body has elaborative mechanism for controlling and dealing with it. Rarely(one among billions), it can become something of harm to body. Every loving thing never forget is the wonder of atomic engineering.
